Black Women’s History Week, Day 1: A Black woman you admire
The week of February 25 to March 3 is Black Women’s History Week; it bridges Black History Month and Women’s History Month. For each day of the week, the team will discuss a different prompt. Today’s theme: A Black Woman You Admire.
Who gets credit for this brilliant idea? That would be Feminista Jones. Here’s her call to celebrate Black women every day of the week.
Our brief conversation around today’s theme is below.
Jasmine: So mine is Kamala. No question.
PowerfulAF: Michelle Obama. She is grace, intelligence and beauty personified. Her presence, compassion, and joy live long past her being in a space. She is a mother, lawyer, writer, wife, and all-around baddy! She does it all with a quiet strength and don’t mess with me type attitude. #TryJesusDontTryMichelle
*ZZ* Makes Art: Amen!
Tierra: I never get starstruck. Never. But I stuttered through my own name every time I’ve met Eleanor Holmes Norton. She’s just so remarkable.
*ZZ* Makes Art: Abigail Deville. Here’s a link.
Jasmine: Honestly, I’m Kamala Harris on Earth 2. [The version of Earth where] I went to Howard on a partial scholarship instead of McDaniel.
Tierra: I don’t know who I am in an alternate universe, but I know she doesn’t have kids.
Jasmine:
Charise: One of myriad Black women I admire is Grace Jones. She has done it all, and on her own terms. When I think “unapologetic,” it conjures an image of Grace with her signature high-top fade and sneer – she is the embodiment of the word for me.

An expat, a cannabis advocate, a stay-at-home mom, an artist, a nonprofit director and an environmental scientist walked into a blog.
That’s it. That’s the bio.
